The Cooper
Pleasant Places provided comprehensive landscape and hardscape construction for The Cooper, helping bring Charleston’s premier luxury waterfront hotel from subgrade through final completion. Over approximately 16 months, our team executed a highly detailed exterior scope designed to complement the architecture of the hotel while creating a seamless connection to Charleston’s waterfront.
Our scope included site preparation and fine grading, extensive architectural paver installation, natural stone paving and detailing, bluestone, Kafka Granite, custom planters, an Ipe boardwalk, pool deck construction, landscape installation, irrigation and drainage systems, and the construction of outdoor gathering and seating areas, including integrated banquettes. From major infrastructure to final planting and punch-list details, the work required precise coordination across numerous materials, elevations, and finished surfaces.
The landscape incorporated mature trees, palms, shrubs, groundcovers, ornamental plantings, and seasonal color throughout the property. These plantings were carefully integrated with the hotel's terraces, pool environment, pedestrian areas, waterfront promenade, and architectural features to establish a lush landscape appropriate for a premier Charleston hospitality destination.
With high-end materials sourced from around the world and an evolving design throughout construction, the project demanded extensive planning, procurement management, field coordination, and craftsmanship. Pleasant Places self-performed its contracted work, allowing our team to maintain control over quality, sequencing, and execution from the early stages of construction through the final details.
The completed landscape and hardscape form an integral part of The Cooper experience—creating refined outdoor spaces that connect the hotel to Charleston Harbor while establishing a landscape designed to mature alongside the property for decades to come.
