Pleasant Places Joins Community Leaders to Break Ground on Transformational Lowline Project
Pleasant Places is proud to announce its involvement in the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated Lowline project, a transformational green corridor set to redefine urban connectivity and greenspace in downtown Charleston. The ceremony, held this past week, marks the official start of Phase One of Lowline Park—a 1.7-acre urban greenspace that will become a new centerpiece for Charleston's evolving landscape.
As the lead landscaping partner on the project, Pleasant Places is honored to bring its 40 years of craftsmanship and community-focused service to one of the region’s most significant public space investments in recent memory.
“This isn’t just a park. It’s a long-term investment in the future of Charleston,” said Palmer Artigues, COO of Pleasant Places. “Lowline will connect people, neighborhoods, and history in a way that only thoughtfully designed greenspace can. We’re proud to play a part in a project that enhances the quality of life for the community we live in and love.”
Spanning the historic path of the former Norfolk Southern rail line, Lowline Park will eventually extend over 1.6 miles, tying together the Upper Peninsula with the heart of the city. The project includes gardens, walking trails, stormwater solutions, and spaces for cultural gathering—all centered around equitable access to nature.
“Lowline Park represents the kind of public-private collaboration that inspires real, lasting change,” said Marty Fosberry, Business Development Lead at Pleasant Places. “As a Charleston-based company with deep roots in the Lowcountry, we know how important it is to build public spaces that serve everyone. This project will leave a legacy we’re proud to be part of.”
Pleasant Places’ role includes detailed landscape installation, and long-term maintenance strategies to ensure the park not only opens beautifully—but thrives for generations.
